The flawlessly imperfect Maison Martin Margiela returns for Spring/Summer 14 with a contemporary re-appropriated collection. The experimental French fashion house was founded in 1988 by Belgian-born enigmatic artist-turned-designer, Martin Margiela and is now under the control of a trusted design team of his disciples. Margiela never gave an interview or appeared in the media while in charge of his namesake company and the anti-marketing ethos continues in his absence, collections are presented without grandeur, traditionally represented simply by a sequential numerical title.
The Spring Summer 14 pre-collection turns its hand to sumptuous time-worn luxury. In line with, yet innovative beyond, the current inside-out trend, Maison Martin Margiela’s pre-collection features classic staple pieces seen through a dust flecked bohemian lens. Blurring the lines between art and fashion as is customary at the famous Maison, Spring Summer 14 sees inner construction transformed into outer embellishment endowing relaxed looks with high fashion touches.
Alive with appreciation for imperfection, key suiting pieces of the collection feature signature deconstructed tailoring with an intuitively masculine, ready to wear focus. Must-haves include a notch lapel suit in colour-of-the-season electric blue, unfinished double lapel waistcoats and matching trousers with double side seams in light grey and black.
