After graduating from Central Saint Martins in 1995, it took only 2 years before Stella McCartney was appointed the Creative Director of Chloe in Paris. In 2001, following a celebrated tenure at Chloe, she then launched her eponymous label putting forward women’s collections that would define a new English aesthetic, one that energizes timeless femininity with an insouciant eclecticism. A life-long vegetarian, her collections notably champion ethical design practices “encompassing responsible luxury through transitional pieces and vegan principles”. The ‘Stella woman’ has since been distinguished as one that is intelligent and effortlessly cool, who exudes an understated glamour.
For AW17, Stella McCartney extended her repertoire to introduce the very first menswear collection – a highly anticipated progression for her celebrated brand. The menswear line draws inspiration from her first appointment after Central Saint Martins, working under Edward Sexton on Saville Row. It was here that she finessed traditional tailoring skills that would have a continued influence on her design direction throughout her career. “The first autumn winter collection celebrates a natural and effortless style approach inspired by British menswear from the boy next door nonchalance to subversive sartorialism”.
